Franz Volkmar Reinhard facts for kids
Franz Volkmar Reinhard (born March 12, 1753 – died September 6, 1812) was an important German Protestant theologian. He was born in a town called Vohenstrauß.
A Life of Learning and Faith
In 1780, Franz Volkmar Reinhard became a professor at the University of Wittenberg. He taught both theology (the study of religious faith) and philosophy (the study of knowledge and existence). He even served as the university's rector, which is like being the head of the university, from 1790 to 1791.
Later, in 1792, he moved to Dresden. There, he became the Oberhofprediger, which means he was the main preacher for the Saxon royal court. This was a very important position.
Reinhard was one of the most influential Protestant religious leaders of his time. He believed strongly in God's power and the authority of the Bible. However, he also thought it was important to use reason and logic. He tried to show that the teachings of Lutheranism were true by using rational arguments in his sermons and lectures.
He was also a key figure in a movement called Leben-Jesu-Forschung. This movement explored the historical life of Jesus. It was first started by Hermann Samuel Reimarus. Reinhard also had a big impact on the German education system.
