A Frappuccino is a popular line of blended iced drinks from Starbucks. These tasty drinks are made with a coffee or cream base. They are blended with ice and yummy ingredients like flavored syrups. Often, they are topped with whipped cream or spices. You can also find Frappuccinos in bottles at grocery stores, convenience stores, and vending machines.

The History of Frappuccino

The name "Frappuccino" is a mix of two words. It comes from "frappe" and "cappuccino." A "frappe" is a thick milkshake with ice cream, especially in New England. A "cappuccino" is an espresso coffee with foamed milk.

The first Frappuccino was created by a coffee shop called the Coffee Connection. This shop was in Eastern Massachusetts. A person named Andrew Frank helped create it. When Starbucks bought the Coffee Connection in 1994, they also got the rights to the Frappuccino name. Starbucks then launched their own version of the drink in 1995. By 2012, Starbucks was selling over $2 billion worth of Frappuccinos each year!

How Frappuccinos Are Made

The Frappuccino recipe combines ideas from different cold drinks. It mixes parts of iced coffee and milkshakes. It also takes inspiration from the Italian cappuccino.

Today, a Frappuccino usually contains brewed coffee and ice. It also has a special ingredient to make it smooth, like xanthan gum. Other things added can be milk, sugar, flavored syrups, and whipped cream.

Different Kinds of Frappuccinos

Starbucks offers many different types of Frappuccino drinks. Here are some of the most common ones you can find.

Frappuccino Blended Crème

If you don't want coffee, you can choose a Frappuccino Blended Crème. These drinks have a coffee-free base. Some popular examples are the Mocha Crème, Caramel Crème, and Vanilla Bean Crème. The Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino is also very popular. These Crème Frappuccinos have little to no caffeine.

Frappuccinos with No Dairy

Starbucks started offering Frappuccinos made with soy milk in 2010. This was in the United States and Canada. By 2011, this option was available in Australia too. Now, you can also get Frappuccinos made with coconut, almond, and oat milk. This is great for people who can't have dairy.

Customizing Your Frappuccino

You can add many extra things to your Frappuccino. These can include espresso shots for more coffee flavor. You can also add different flavored syrups or chocolate chips. Some people like to add flavored powders. You can even ask for more or less ice to change how thick it is.

You can also order a "light" Frappuccino. This version uses a low-sugar base and nonfat milk. It usually comes without whipped cream.

Bottled Frappuccinos You Can Buy

You can buy Frappuccinos in bottles at stores and vending machines. The first bottled version in the U.S. came out in 1996. Starbucks now offers many different bottled flavors. Some popular ones are Mocha, Vanilla, Coffee, and Caramel. These bottles come in different sizes for you to enjoy.

Starbucks and PepsiCo Partnership

In 1994, PepsiCo and Starbucks teamed up. They created something called the North American Coffee Partnership. This partnership helps bring ready-to-drink Starbucks products to more people. They use Pepsi's big distribution network. The Frappuccino was the very first product this partnership launched.
