Frederick Edgar Dinenage MBE (born 8 June 1942) is a well-known British author, broadcaster, and TV presenter. He has been on television for almost 60 years! He is famous for hosting children's shows like How and How 2. He also presented local news for ITV Meridian in the south of England for 38 years, before retiring in December 2021.

Early Life and School
Fred Dinenage was born in Birmingham, England. He went to school at Portsmouth Grammar School.
TV Career Highlights
Fred Dinenage has presented many different TV programmes. Many of these shows were made by Southern Television and its later companies, TVS and Meridian Broadcasting. Some of his popular shows include Tell The Truth, How, and How 2. He also hosted the BBC quiz show Pass The Buck.
News Presenter Role
Fred Dinenage started his TV career in 1964 at Southern Television. He began on a children's show called Three Go Round. Later, he worked on the local news show Day By Day, reporting and presenting. He also focused on sports news, hosting a weekly sports section.
In 1982, he moved to TVS. He continued to present sports news. The next year, he became a main news anchor for Coast to Coast. He worked with other presenters like Fern Britton.
When TVS changed to Meridian, Fred stayed on as a news anchor for Meridian Tonight. He presented the news with several co-anchors, including Debbie Thrower and Sangeeta Bhabra.
In October 2021, Fred announced he would be leaving ITV. His last news show, ITV News Meridian, was on 16 December 2021. He had been a news anchor in the south of England for 38 years.

Fred Dinenage also spent some time covering regional sports for Yorkshire Television. He was a guest presenter on the national ITV show World of Sport. This even led to him appearing on the children's Saturday show Tiswas. He also writes a weekly column for the magazine of the local newspaper, Southern Daily Echo.
Besides his TV work, Fred Dinenage has written several non-fiction books. He also helped write the life stories for the Kray twins. He loves football and was on the board of directors for Portsmouth Football Club from 1998 to 2007.
In 2014, Fred celebrated 50 years of working with ITV. He said he hoped to keep broadcasting. He also hosted a crime documentary series called Fred Dinenage: Murder Casebook, which started in 2011. Since 2017, he has narrated Most Evil Killers.
Fred Dinenage was given an award called the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2010. This was for his great work in broadcasting.
In 2020, it was announced that Fred would appear in a new series of How. He plays the "Head of How" in an office above the main studio. You can even see a picture of a younger Fred in his office!
In June 2023, Fred Dinenage joined BBC Radio Solent. He presented shows on Saturday afternoons for six weeks during the summer.
Family Life
Fred Dinenage's second daughter is Dame Caroline Dinenage. She was born in 1971. Caroline is a politician for the Conservative Party. She became a Member of Parliament for Gosport in 2010. She also served as the Digital and Culture Minister for a time.
