Early Music Career
James Campbell, who would later be known as Freddie Foxxx, began rapping in the early 1980s. His first official recording was in 1986. He was part of a group called the Supreme Force and used the name Freddie C.
That same year, he was supposed to meet with a producer named Eric B.. Eric B. was looking for a rapper to team up with. Foxxx missed the meeting, and Eric B. went on to form the legendary group Eric B. & Rakim with the rapper Rakim.
Even though he missed that chance, Foxxx still got to work with Eric B. His first album, Freddie Foxxx Is Here, was released in 1989. It was produced entirely by Eric B. and Foxxx. After this album, he joined Queen Latifah's music group, the Flavor Unit.
Working with Music Stars
In 1993, Foxxx recorded his second album, Crazy Like A Foxxx. However, the record company, Epic Records, decided not to release it to the public at the time.
After this, Foxxx became well-known for his guest appearances, or cameos, on songs by other famous artists. He worked with groups like Boogie Down Productions, Naughty by Nature, and M.O.P..
His most famous guest appearance was on the song The Militia by the group Gang Starr. The song was on their 1998 album Moment of Truth. It became a popular single and created a lot of excitement for Foxxx's own music.
Going Independent
Learning from his past experiences with big record companies, Foxxx decided to release his next album on his own. This is called going the independent route.
His album Industry Shakedown came out in 2000. It featured work from some of hip hop's greatest producers, including DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and The Alchemist. The only guest rappers on the album were the members of M.O.P.
In 2003, he released his fourth album, The Konexion. It had a similar style to his previous work and featured more music from his friend DJ Premier.
Later Work and WWE
Freddie Foxxx also made music for the video game WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006. He created all the hip hop songs for the game's soundtrack and performed on several tracks.
He also appeared on the album You Can't See Me by WWE superstar John Cena.
Over the years, Foxxx has continued to release music. In 2012, he teamed up with DJ Premier for the album KoleXXXion, which was well-liked by fans and critics. His album Crazy Like a Foxxx, which was not released back in 1993, finally came out officially in 2008.
