Statik Selektah's Musical Journey
Statik Selektah was born on January 23, 1982, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He loved music from a young age. He started playing with music equipment at home. By middle school, he was already DJing school parties. He was inspired by famous DJs like DJ Premier and Funkmaster Flex. They mixed music on the radio, which made him want to be a professional DJ.
Early Days and Radio
Statik began working at the WPEA radio station in Exeter, New Hampshire. He also DJ'd some parties there. He first called himself DJ Statik. Later, he added "Selektah" after hearing a reggae artist say it. He started DJing at clubs and private parties all over New England.
In 2000, Statik moved back to Massachusetts. He went to the New England Institute of Art in Boston. There, he studied audio production. Around this time, Statik started his own series of mixtapes called "Spell My Name Right."
ShowOff Records and First Albums
In 2003, Statik created ShowOff Marketing. This company worked with big brands like Reebok and music labels. In 2006, he turned ShowOff into a record label. The first release from his label was "Out the Gate" by Termanology.
In 2007, Statik released his first album, Spell My Name Right. He followed this with his second album, Stick 2 the Script, in 2009. In 2010, another of his albums reached number 37 on Billboard's Heatseeker Albums Chart. Besides his own music, he has produced songs for many other artists.
Radio Shows and Video Games
Statik Selektah has a radio show on Thursday nights. It's on Eminem's Shade 45 XM/Sirius Radio Station. In 2009, he was a DJ in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City. He was featured on the hip hop radio station The Beat 102.7 in the game.
Recent Projects and Albums
