Bernard James Freeman (born March 19, 1973), known as Bun B, is an American rapper. He is famous as half of the rap group UGK (UnderGround Kingz). He started this group in 1987 with ... C. Besides UGK, Bun B has released five solo albums. His 2010 album, Trill OG, got a top rating from The Source magazine.

Bun B is also a guest teacher at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Bun B's Music Journey

Starting with UGK

Bun B and his friend Jalon Jackson had a group called P.A. Militia. They joined another group to form 4 Black Ministers. This new group released an extended play (EP) called The Southern Way. This EP caught the attention of Jive Records.

While making their first album, Too Hard to Swallow, some songs were too strong. So, Bigtyme Records released an EP called Banned first. It had the songs that were too explicit for the album. The song "Pocket Full of Stones" was the first UGK song to be played a lot across the United States. Their second album, Super Tight..., came out in 1994. Their third album, Ridin' Dirty, reached number 2 on the R&B Charts in 1996. It also hit number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Beginning a Solo Career

Bun B also appeared on songs by other artists. These included "They Don't Know" by Paul Wall and "Gimme That" by Webbie. He was also in a film called Screwed In Houston. This film showed the history of the Houston rap music scene.

In October 2005, Bun B released his first solo album, Trill. Popular songs from the album included "Draped Up" and "Get Throwed". The album reached number 6 on the American Billboard 200 chart. It also hit number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.

II Trill Album

In 2008, Bun B released his second album, II Trill. The first song from this album was "That's Gangsta". It featured the artist Sean Kingston. The album started at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. It sold 98,000 copies in its first week.

Trill OG Album

Bun B's third album is Trill OG. He mentioned that the famous rapper 2Pac was going to be on the album. He said it would be a "brand new verse." The album was released on August 3, 2010.

Trill OG: The Epilogue Album

On October 28, 2011, a song called "The Life" was released. On March 3, 2012, Bun B shared a song called "Stop Playin'". It featured Royce da 5'9" and Redman. He released it after reaching 400,000 followers on Twitter.

His fourth album was first thought to be called Trill 4 Life. It was planned for 2013. On August 22, 2013, it was announced that the album would come out in October 2013. It was set to feature Rick Ross and 2 Chainz. On October 4, 2013, the album was officially named Trill OG: The Epilogue. It was released on November 12, 2013. This album mainly included songs that were not used on the Trill O.G. album.

In January 2014, Bun B announced "The Trillest Tour." He shared the tour dates on January 30. He toured with fellow Houston artist Kirko Bangz. The tour lasted from March 6 to April 17, 2014.

Other Projects

Awards and Recognition

On June 24, 2014, Bun B attended the Htown Beatdown concert. This event was hosted by local radio station Hot 95.7. He received the 360 Legend Award. This award honored his successful music career and his positive impact on the community.

Teaching at University

In Spring 2011, Bun B became a special lecturer at Rice University. He taught a class about Hip hop and Religion. As of 2013, Bun B continued to teach this course twice a week.

Coloring Book Fun

On September 17, 2013, Bun B released a coloring book. It was called "Bun B's Rap Coloring Book." He created it with author Shea Serrano. They had talked about making a book together before. Serrano had drawn coloring pages of rappers and shared them online. These pages became very popular. So, Bun B and Serrano decided to make a full coloring book.

Trill Burgers Restaurant

Bun B also opened a restaurant called Trill Burgers. It is located in Houston, Texas.

Personal Life

Bun B has been married to Angela "Queenie" Wells since 2003. He has two stepchildren and seven step-grandchildren. His stepson, Young-B, is a rapper in the group Youngest N Charge. This group often opens for Bun B's shows.
