Bernard James Freeman (born March 19, 1973), known as Bun B, is an American rapper. He is famous as one half of the Southern rap group UGK. He formed UGK (Underground Kingz) in 1987 with ... C. Besides his work with UGK, Bun B has released five solo albums. His 2010 album, Trill OG, received a rare perfect rating from The Source magazine.

A Look at Bun B's Career

Forming the Group UGK

Bun B and his friend Jalon Jackson had their own group called P.A. Militia. Both groups decided to team up. They formed a new group called 4 Black Ministers. Later, Queen and Jackson left the group. .....

The "Underground King" demo tape caught the attention of Bigtyme Records. This was an independent music label in Houston. UGK then released an extended play (EP) called The Southern Way. This EP got the attention of Jive Records.

While recording their first album, Too Hard to Swallow, some songs were too strong for the album. So, Bigtyme Records released an EP called Banned before the album. This EP included the songs that were too strong for the main album. The song "Pocket Full of Stones" became the first UGK song to be played a lot on the radio across the United States.

Their second album, Super Tight..., came out in 1994. Their third album, Ridin' Dirty, was very popular. It reached number 2 on the R&B Charts in 1996. It also reached number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart. .....

Starting a Solo Career

..... He appeared as a guest on many albums by other rappers. In 2005, he released a mixtape called Legends.

Bun B was featured on popular songs like "They Don't Know" by Paul Wall. He also appeared on "Gimme That" by Webbie and "I'm A G" by Yung Joc. Bun B was also in a documentary called Screwed In Houston. This film showed the history of the rap music scene in Houston.

In October 2005, Bun B released his first solo album, Trill. Popular songs from this album included "Draped Up", "Git It", and "Get Throwed". The album was a big success. It reached number 6 on the American Billboard 200 chart. It also hit number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.

II Trill Album Release

..... In 2008, he released his second album, II Trill. The first song from this album was "That's Gangsta". It featured the artist Sean Kingston. The album was very popular. It debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200. It sold 98,000 copies in its first week.

Bun B's third album is Trill OG. In an interview, Bun B mentioned that the famous rapper 2Pac was featured on the album. He said it was a brand new verse. The album was released by Universal Music Group on August 3, 2010.

On October 28, 2011, a song called "The Life" was shared online. It was produced by 14KT. On March 3, 2012, Bun B shared another song. It was called "Stop Playin'" and featured Royce da 5'9" and Redman. He shared it after reaching 400,000 followers on Twitter.

Bun B's fourth album was thought to be called Trill 4 Life. It was planned for a 2013 release. On August 22, 2013, Rap-A-Lot Records announced the album. They said his fourth album would be released in October 2013. It was set to feature Rick Ross and 2 Chainz.

On October 4, 2013, the album was officially named Trill OG: The Epilogue. It was released on November 12, 2013. The album mostly had songs that were not used on the Trill O.G. album. .....

In January 2014, Bun B announced "The Trillest Tour." On January 30, he shared the tour dates. He toured with fellow Houston artist Kirko Bangz. The tour ran from March 6 to April 17, 2014.

Awards and Recognition

On June 24, 2014, Bun B appeared at the Htown Beatdown concert. This event was hosted by local radio station Hot 95.7. He received the 360 Legend Award. This award honored his successful music career. It also recognized his positive impact on the local community.

Teaching at University

In Spring 2011, Bun B became a special lecturer at Rice University. He taught a class in the School of the Humanities. The course was about Hip hop and Religion. Bun B continued to teach this class twice a week into 2013.

Creating a Coloring Book

On September 17, 2013, Bun B released a coloring book. It was called "Bun B's Rap Coloring Book." He created it with author Shea Serrano. Bun B and Serrano had talked about making a book together before. They first thought about a "hip hop survival guide." But they decided against that idea.

Later, Serrano drew coloring pages of rappers. He posted them online, and they became very popular. Bun B and Serrano then decided to make a full coloring book.

Trill Burgers Restaurant

Bun B opened his own burger restaurant called Trill Burgers. It is located on South Shepherd and Richmond Avenue in Houston, Texas.

Bun B's Personal Life

Bun B married Angela "Queenie" Wells in 2003. He has two stepchildren and seven step-grandchildren. His stepson, Young-B, is a rapper. Young-B is part of the rap group Youngest N Charge. This group often opens shows for Bun B.

Since 2013, Bun B has been a guest lecturer at Houston's Rice University.
