Torence Ivy Hatch Jr. (born November 14, 1982), known as Boosie BadAzz or simply Boosie (and formerly Lil' Boosie), is an American rapper. He started rapping in the 1990s with a hip hop group called Concentration Camp. Later, he began his solo music career in 2000.

His first album was Youngest of da Camp. After that, he signed with Trill Entertainment and released his second album, For My Thugz, in 2002. Boosie is a well-known artist in Southern hip hop. He has released many solo albums, collaborative albums, and mixtapes throughout his career.

Early Life

Boosie was born Torence Hatch on November 14, 1982, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He grew up on West Garfield Street. His mother, Connie Hatch, was a school principal. Boosie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was a child.

Music Career

Starting Out in Music

Boosie's cousin, Young Dee, introduced him to rapper C-Loc in the late 1990s. Boosie was mentored by C-Loc and Young Bleed. In 1998, he joined Concentration Camp, a rap group from Baton Rouge. He was the youngest member of the group.

Boosie first appeared on C-Loc's album It's A Gamble in 2000. He also featured on Concentration Camp's album Camp III: Thug Brothas that same year. When Young Bleed left the group, Lil' Boosie became one of the main artists. At 17, he recorded his first album, Youngest of da Camp, in 2000.

In 2001, he joined Trill Entertainment. The label then released his album For My Thugz in 2002. This album featured Young Bleed and Webbie. He also put out his first mixtape, Boosie 2002 (Advance).

Growing Success (2003–2005)

In 2003, Boosie worked with Webbie on the album Ghetto Stories. They teamed up again in 2004 for Trill Azz Mixtape Vol. 1. This mixtape also featured Torrence "Bad Azz". In the same year, he released Trill Azz Mixes II.

Boosie and Webbie released their second album together, Gangsta Musik. Boosie's music caught the attention of Universal Music Group. In 2004, Lil' Boosie and South Coast Coalition released Both Sides of the Track. He also released a mixtape that included the song "I Smoke, I Drank".

In early 2005, Boosie signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records.

New Albums and Collaborations (2006–2009)

The album Survival of the Fittest came out in 2007. In 2008, Boosie released Da Beginning Mixtape. He also shared his new mixtape, 4th Of July Bash, at his Fourth of July party.

In December 2008, Lil' Boosie released Lil Boosie Presents: Da Click. This album featured artists like Hatch Boy and Locco. In 2008, he was featured on Webbie's song "Independent". He also appeared on "Out Here Grindin" by DJ Khaled.

In March 2009, Boosie released The Return Of Mr. Wipe Me Down. This was a mixtape to promote his second major album. He also shared an untitled mixtape at his July 4th party. Songs from this tape appeared on Da Click: Street Kingz. In 2009, Lil' Boosie released his second major album, Superbad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz. The first song from the album, "Better Believe It", featured Webbie and Young Jeezy.

Also in 2009, Lil' Boosie started his own music company, Bad Azz Entertainment. He released Thug Passion on this label. In the summer of 2009, Lil' Boosie and Hurricane Chris released a mixtape called Category 7: Bad Azz Hurricane. Lil' Boosie also released Untouchables with LoLa Monroe and The 25th Hour.

Music During Challenging Times (2010–2012)

In 2010, Lil' Boosie and C-Loc released Unbreakable. During a challenging time in his life, Boosie announced he wanted to continue his music career. He released his fourth studio album, Incarcerated, on September 28. This album featured artists like Webbie, Foxx, and Lil Trill.

Lil' Boosie released Gone Til' December in 2010. This was a mixtape album with new music. He also released Should've Been My Beatz and 22504 with B.G.. In 2011, Quick released Hit After Hit 3 with Lil' Boosie. In 2012, My Brother's Keeper was released with Money Bagz and Quick. Also, Under Investigation was released as a free download.

Changing His Name (2014)

In January 2014, Lil' Boosie talked about his music. He said, "I have about 500 songs at the moment. I feel that I'm making the best music I've ever made. The more I go through in life the better my music gets." He added, "I keep my music heartfelt and stick to making real music. My music is 'reality rap'."

On March 10, 2014, Boosie spoke publicly after a period away. He announced his new record deal with Atlantic Records. His first song released under this deal was "Show Da World" with Webbie. Lil' Boosie also featured on songs by 2 Chainz, Dorrough Music, DJ Mustard, Young Jeezy, T.I., and Snootie Wild. At this time, he officially changed his stage name to "Boosie Badazz."

New Albums (2014–Present)

In April 2014, Boosie announced his sixth studio album, Touchdown 2 Cause Hell. It was released on May 26, 2015. The album had 17 new songs. It featured artists like Rich Homie Quan, Webbie, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, T.I., and Keyshia Cole.

On October 30, 2014, Boosie released his first mixtape since his name change, called Life After Deathrow. This project featured Yo Gotti, Trey Songz, and Shy Glizzy. It included songs like "I'm coming Home" and "NO JUICE".

On December 15, 2017, Boosie Badazz released his seventh studio album, BooPac. On November 22, 2018, he released Boosie Blues Cafe. On March 29, 2019, he released Badazz 3.5.

Bad Azz Music Syndicate

Bad Azz Music Syndicate is a record label started by Boosie Badazz and Taquari "TQ" Hatch. TQ suggested changing the name from Bad Azz Entertainment. They wanted to create a music company that could sign many different artists in the future.

Personal Life

Boosie is a father to eight children.

On March 9, 2013, it was announced that Boosie earned his GED certificate.

On November 25, 2015, Boosie shared that he had been diagnosed with kidney cancer. He had successful surgery to remove the cancer.

Boosie has type 1 diabetes, which he was diagnosed with as a child. He has spoken about his experience with diabetes.

In September 2022, Boosie released his memoir, Cross The Tracks: A Memoir.
