Early Life and First Steps
Jasiel Robinson's father owned a company that made hair-care products. This helped Yung Joc get a chance to write a jingle, which is a short song for an advertisement, for the company Revlon. After this, Robinson started his own music label called Mastermind. He used this label to release his own music.
Music Career
2005–2006: New Joc City Album
In 2005, Jasiel Robinson met a music producer from Atlanta named Nitti Beatz. Together, they created the popular song "It's Goin' Down". After working with Russell "Block" Spencer, who started the Block Enterprises label, Spencer helped Robinson sign a big deal with Sean Combs's Bad Boy South label.
Bad Boy South then released Robinson's first album, New Joc City, in 2006. Yung Joc also appeared on other songs, like "Show Stopper" by Danity Kane and "Call U Out" from Cassie's album. In 2006, Forbes magazine listed him as one of the "Richest Rappers", estimating he earned about $10 million that year.
The song "It's Goin' Down" reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also hit number 1 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart. His next song, "I Know U See It", reached number 17 on the Hot 100 and number 2 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart.
2007–2009: Hustlenomics Album
Yung Joc's second album, Hustlenomics, came out in 2007. It included the songs "Coffee Shop" (with The-Dream and Gorilla Zoe) and "Bottle Poppin'" (also with Gorilla Zoe). Hustlenomics sold 69,000 copies in its first week. It debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart. By April 2009, it had sold around 197,000 copies.
In 2007, Yung Joc was featured on "Lookin Boy", a song by the hip hop group Hotstylz. This group was signed to his label. In 2008, he was featured on popular songs like "Get Like Me" by David Banner, "So Fly" by Slim, and "Beep" by Bobby V. In 2009, he was on the Day26 song "Imma Put It on Her". Yung Joc also released a free music collection called Grind Flu on his Swagg Team Entertainment label in August 2009.
2010–2014: Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood Album
In 2010, Yung Joc released "Yeah Boy", which was the first song from his album Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood. A music video for this song was also released.
In October 2012, RCA Music Group announced that it was closing down J Records, Arista Records, and Jive Records. Because of this, Yung Joc and other artists from these labels would release their future music, including Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood, under the RCA Records brand.
In March 2014, Yung Joc released his first official song from his upcoming third album. The song was called "I Got ...". In September 2014, he released a second song from the album, "Features", which included his friend and singer T-Pain.
