Alonzo Keith Mathis Jr. (born on March 15, 1983), known by his stage name Gorilla Zoe, is an American rapper. He comes from East Point, Georgia. He became famous for his unique style in hip hop music.

In 2006, Gorilla Zoe joined the hip hop group Boyz n da Hood. He became a member after Jeezy left the group. After releasing one album with the group, he decided to start a solo career. He then signed with Bad Boy Records and Block Entertainment. His first solo album, Welcome to the Zoo, came out in 2007. His second album, Don't Feed Da Animals (2009), was very popular. It reached the top ten on music charts.

Career Highlights

In 2006, Alonzo Mathis, known as Gorilla Zoe, joined the group Boyz N Da Hood. He replaced Young Jeezy in the group. He first gained attention by working with Yung Joc. Their songs "Coffee Shop" and "Bottle Poppin'" became popular. These songs appeared on several Billboard music charts. Soon after, he signed as a solo artist with Block Entertainment and Bad Boy South.

On April 24, 2007, Gorilla Zoe released his first solo song, "Hood Figga". This song was a big hit. It reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His first solo album, Welcome to the Zoo, was released in October 2007. It reached number 18 on the Billboard 200 chart. It also hit number 8 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 2007, XXL magazine chose Gorilla Zoe for their "Freshmen" cover. This cover highlights new and rising hip hop artists.

On October 7, 2008, Gorilla Zoe released "Lost". This was the first song from his second album. His second album, Don't Feed da Animals, came out on March 17, 2009. This album was very successful. It topped the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart. It sold 29,000 copies in its first week. The album reached number 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. He later released two more songs from the album, "What It Is" and "Echo".

In February 2010, Gorilla Zoe released a new mixtape every day. He shared these on the website DatPiff.com. He also released an EP called I Am Atlanta 3. He worked on another mixtape with artist Qu1k.

On June 14, 2011, Gorilla Zoe released his third solo album, King Kong. This album reached number 56 on the Billboard 200 chart. It sold over 10,000 copies in its first week. Music critics at Allmusic gave the album a good rating. A song from the album, "What's Goin' On", was released in December 2010. It reached number 99 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart.

After taking a break for two years, Gorilla Zoe released a new mixtape in May 2014. It was called Recovery. Around this time, it was announced that he had signed with Flo Rida's record label. This label is called International Music Group. In July 2018, Gorilla Zoe released "Fat Jesus". This was his first song as an independent artist.
