Bobby Marcel Wilson (born February 27, 1980), known by his stage name Bobby V, is an American R&B singer. He was born in Jackson, Mississippi and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Bobby V first joined the R&B group Mista in 1994. The group became famous for their 1996 song "Blackberry Molasses". Their first album, released that same year, did not sell as well as hoped, and the group broke up the next year.

After Mista, Wilson started his solo career. In 2005, he signed with rapper Ludacris' record label, Disturbing tha Peace, which was part of Def Jam Recordings. He released his first solo song, "Slow Down", in February 2005. This song became a big hit, reaching number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was the main song from his first album, Bobby Valentino (2005), which reached number three on the Billboard 200 album chart. His second album, Special Occasion (2007), also did well. His third album, The Rebirth (2009), was released by EMI. All three of these albums reached the top of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Bobby V's Music Journey

Early Life and Starting in Music (1980-2004)

Bobby Marcel Wilson was born on February 27, 1980, in Mississippi. He later moved to Atlanta, Georgia. When he was growing up, Wilson listened to artists like Michael Jackson, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Marvin Gaye, Jodeci, and The Isley Brothers. These artists inspired him to become an R&B singer.

Wilson started his music career in 1996 as a member of the R&B group Mista. At that time, he used his real name, Bobby Wilson. The group released their first album, which included the hit song "Blackberry Molasses". However, the album itself did not become as popular. Even though they recorded a second album, it was never released. Because of problems with their management, the group broke up in 1997.

After the group, Wilson went to Clark Atlanta University to study mass communications. While he was in college, he kept recording music in his free time. He hoped to return to the stage one day.

First Albums and Success (2005-2007)

Bobby V's first solo album, Bobby Valentino, came out in the spring of 2005. It was released through Island Def Jam and Ludacris' Disturbing tha Peace label. The album sold over 708,000 copies in the United States, earning a gold certification. Most of the songs were produced by the famous team Tim & Bob.

His first song, "Slow Down", became a Top 10 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also became a #1 R&B song on the Billboard R&B Singles chart. In 2005, Bobby V also joined the Scream Tour IV with other popular artists like Bow Wow and Omarion. After "Slow Down" was a success, he released a second song, a remix of "Tell Me" which featured Lil Wayne.

In 2007, Bobby V released his second album, Special Occasion. The first song from this album was "Turn the Page". His second song, "Anonymous", featured Timbaland and was released on April 9, 2007. Critics and fans generally liked the album.

New Record Label and The Rebirth (2008-2009)

In early 2008, Bobby V announced that he was no longer working with Def Jam or Disturbing tha Peace. He explained that he wanted to try working on his own. He said that he had a good relationship with Ludacris and the record labels.

Around this time, another musician named Bobby Valentino had a legal issue with Bobby V (who was then known as "Bobby Valentino") and his record label. This was about using the same name for music and performances.

Bobby V decided to leave his old labels because his second album, Special Occasion, did not sell as many copies as expected. He was also frustrated by delays in releasing the album.

In April 2008, Bobby V released an album called Come with Me through digital stores. It included the song "Another Life". In July 2008, Bobby V signed a new deal with EMI. This new deal would help his own music company, Blu Kolla Dreams.

Bobby V also announced a new album called The Rebirth. He said that he had learned a lot from his past experiences in the music industry. He felt ready to take his career to the next level. The Rebirth was released on February 10, 2009, and this was when he started using his new stage name, "Bobby V". The first song from the album was "Beep" featuring Yung Joc.

Recent Music and Projects (2010-Present)

Bobby V released his fourth album, Fly on the Wall, on March 22, 2011. The first song was "Phone #", which featured rapper Plies. In December 2010, he released his second song from the album, "Words". In February 2011, Bobby V released "Rock Wit'cha", which was a new version of a song by Bobby Brown.

In May 2012, Bobby V released "Mirror", the first song from his album Dusk Till Dawn. This song featured Lil Wayne. Dusk Till Dawn was released on October 16, 2012.

In January 2016, Bobby V partnered with Michael Caseau for help with media and management. That same year, he released the music for the BET movie Hollywood Hearts.

In September 2017, Bobby V signed a new record deal with SoNo Recording Group. This brought him back together with producer Tim Kelley, who had worked on his first album. Their new album, Electrik, was produced entirely by Tim Kelley and released on March 9, 2018. It reached #7 on the Billboard R&B Album Chart. Electrik includes a song called "Lil' Bit" with Snoop Dogg.

In June 2022, Bobby V took part in Verzuz, a music battle show. He performed with Ray J against Sammie and Pleasure P. This event became very popular, and the four singers decided to form a new R&B supergroup called R.S.V.P.
