Frederick Douglass High School is a unique public high school in Columbia, Missouri. It's an "alternative" school, which means it offers different programs than typical high schools. History of Frederick Douglass High School
Frederick Douglass High School was built a long time ago, in 1917. The building has two stories and is made of brick. Its style is called Classical Revival. This means it looks like old Greek and Roman buildings.
In 1980, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of important places in the United States. It was listed under the name Fred Douglass School.
The school building was closed for a while. But it was carefully restored and made modern again. It reopened its doors in the fall of 2017. Today, it is one of four high schools in the Columbia Public School District.
Sports and School Spirit
Students at Frederick Douglass High School can join sports teams. They compete in the MSHSAA 4A division. The school's sports include basketball and track and field.
