About Frederick William Campbell

Frederick William Campbell was born on January 4, 1782. He was part of the Campbell family from Barbreck, which was a branch of the larger Argyll family in Scotland. His father was Donald Campbell of Barbreck.

Frederick joined the army and became a captain in the 1st regiment of guards. After his father passed away in 1804, Frederick took over the family estate. However, he later sold the land in Argyllshire, Scotland. He kept only a special right called "superiority" to stay connected to the area.

He then moved to Birfield Lodge, which was near Ipswich in Suffolk, England. In Suffolk, he became a magistrate, which means he was a local official who handled minor legal cases. He was also a deputy-lieutenant, helping the main representative of the King or Queen in the county.

What He Wrote

In 1830, Frederick William Campbell published a book called 'A Letter to Mrs. Campbell of Barbreck, containing an Account of the Campbells of Barbreck from their First Ancestors to the Present Time'. He printed this book privately, meaning it was not sold to the general public but shared among family and friends.
