History of Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg was first planned out in 1815. It was named after Frederick Royse, who owned the land where the community was built. In 1859, Fredericksburg officially became an incorporated town. This meant it had its own local government.
However, in June 2012, the town decided to "disincorporate." This means it gave up its official town status and local government. The Fredericksburg post office has been open for a very long time, since 1819.
Geography of Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg is located at 38°25′57″N 86°11′24″W / 38.43250°N 86.19000°W. It sits right on the Blue River. This river was very important when the community was first settled. A water mill was built on the river, which helped the community grow and become successful.
Over time, electricity became common, and water mills were no longer needed. The river then became a problem for Fredericksburg. The community is built on a floodplain, which is flat land near a river that often floods. Frequent flooding caused many people and businesses to leave or move to higher ground.
According to the 2010 census, Fredericksburg covers about 1.01 square miles (2.62 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small amount of water.
