Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Fredericksburg is a small place in Gasconade County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, the county government helps manage things for the people living there.

The Story of Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg has an interesting past. A post office was opened here before September 30, 1865. It was started by a man named George Hopkins. He was an emigrant, meaning he had moved from his home country of England. George Hopkins came from a place called Heyshott in Sussex, England.

The post office was very important for people living in Fredericksburg. It helped them send and receive letters and packages. This post office stayed open for many years, until 1922. The community itself got its name from the Fredericks family. They were some of the first people, or "pioneer citizens," to settle in this area.
