Fredrik Åkesson is a talented Swedish guitarist who plays heavy metal music. He is currently a member of the band Opeth. He also plays with other bands like Krux, Monsters of Metal, and Talisman.

About Fredrik Åkesson

Fredrik Åkesson started playing the guitar when he was 12 years old. Some of the guitarists who inspired him early on include Michael Schenker and Yngwie Malmsteen.

In 1992, when he was 19, Fredrik joined the band Talisman. He played with them for almost four years. After making five albums with Talisman, he decided to explore heavier music styles.

He then formed a band called Eyeball with some friends. They later changed their name to Southpaw. In 1998, Fredrik played on Southpaw's first album.

Fredrik later returned to Talisman. He helped them create two new studio albums: Cats and Dogs (2003) and 7 (2006). They also released a live album called Five Men Live (2005).

In 2004, Fredrik helped out the band Tiamat on tour. He also appeared on the album Night Church by Sabbtail.

Fredrik also co-wrote two songs for John Norum's album Optimus. From 2005 to 2007, he played with the melodic death metal band Arch Enemy. He joined them when their original guitarist took a break. He also played on the Krux album II, which came out in 2006. In 2007, he performed with Krux at the Sweden Rock Festival.

On May 17, 2007, the band Opeth announced that Fredrik would be their new guitarist. His first tour with Opeth was the Progressive Nation Tour. He played alongside bands like Dream Theater. Fredrik's first album with Opeth was Watershed (2008). He helped write the song "Porcelain Heart" on that album. He also co-wrote the song "Pyre" for Opeth's album Heritage (2011).

In 2018, Fredrik added a guitar solo to a song called "Arcana Imperii." This song was on the album Ámr by the black metal musician Ihsahn.

Guitar Gear and Endorsements

Fredrik Åkesson used to have a special agreement with ESP Guitars. This meant he used their guitars and even had his own special model.

After joining Opeth, Fredrik started using PRS Guitars. He also uses Marshall JVM 410 amps and speaker cabinets. In one of his music videos, you can see him playing a PRS Mark Tremonti Signature guitar.

Later, in 2009, he switched to Blackstar Amplification. He used their Series One 200 amps. Besides his Blackstar amps, he also uses a special effects processor called Fractal Audio's Axe FX. In 2012, Fredrik changed his amp endorsement again, this time to Marshall amps. In 2011, PRS guitars made another signature model just for him.
