Freedom is a small farming community. It is located about 4 miles (6 km) northwest of Moroni. It is also about 6 miles (10 km) south of Fountain Green. This area used to be on an old road called SR-30.
How Freedom Was Settled
People first settled in Freedom in 1871. This was a time after the American Civil War. Many new places were given names that sounded patriotic, like 'Freedom'.
The community was first named Draper. This name honored an early settler. But in 1877, its name was changed to Freedom.
Connection to Moroni
Freedom has always been closely linked to the nearby town of Moroni. For most of its history, Freedom was even counted as part of Moroni's census area.
