Discover French Creek Farm!

French Creek Farm is like a time capsule from the past. It shows us what farms were like long ago. The farm has four main buildings that are very old and special. They help tell the story of the farm.

The Historic Buildings

Let's explore the buildings that make French Creek Farm so unique:

  • Spring House: This stone building was built in 1795. A spring house was used to keep food cool before refrigerators existed. It used cold spring water to keep things fresh.
  • Barn and Wagonshed: Built between 1796 and 1797, this building has a stucco finish. It was used to store farm tools and wagons.
  • Smokehouse: This stone building from 1799 is two-and-a-half stories tall. A smokehouse was where people smoked meat to preserve it.
  • Farmhouse: The main house was built in three different parts. It's a two-and-a-half-story stone house with a sloped roof. The oldest part was built in 1804. More sections were added in 1808 and 1812. This means the house grew over time!

A Place in History

French Creek Farm was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. This is a list of places in the United States that are important to our country's history. Being on this list helps protect the farm so future generations can learn from it.
