History of Fresno
How Fresno Got Its Name
Fresno has had a few different names over the years! It was first called Jacktown. However, the people living there didn't really like that name.
So, the community decided to vote and change the name. They chose "Avondale" instead. A post office was set up in Avondale in 1875. Later, in 1905, the name of the post office, and therefore the community, was changed one last time to Fresno.
