History of Friendship

Friendship got its name in the early 1900s. It was named after a special gathering called a pow wow. A pow wow is a traditional meeting or celebration held by Native American groups. At this particular pow wow, African-Americans, white people, and Native Americans came together. They agreed to live peacefully with each other in the area. This agreement led to the community being named Friendship.

They believed this name would help students feel more connected to the nearby town of Apex. In the end, the Wake County School Board made the final decision. They voted to name the school Apex Friendship High School. This choice recognized both the community's history and its location.
