Fritz-kola is a popular soft drink from northern Germany. It is sold in many countries across the European Union. This drink has a lot of caffeine. It comes in glass bottles with black and white labels. These labels show the faces of the two friends who started the company.
How Fritz-kola Began
Two students from Hamburg, Germany, started Fritz-kola in 2003. Their names were Lorenz Hampl and Mirco Wiegert. They wanted to create a special cola. They worked with a brewery to make their own recipe.
Their cola was different from other popular brands. It had less sugar and more caffeine. It also had a fresh lemon flavor. They asked people outside a store to help them choose the company name.
To save money, they used simple black and white labels. The labels showed funny pictures of their own heads. At first, they sold their cola to bars. They did not even open an office for three years!
Growing the Business
Lorenz Hampl left the company in 2016. Mirco Wiegert now leads the business. He owns two-thirds of the company. As of 2020, about 280 people work for Fritz-kola.
Five different factories make the cola. It is sold in many European countries. In 2019, their small 330ml bottles sold very well. They were the second best-selling brand after Coke. Other big markets for Fritz-kola are the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, and Austria. In 2015, the company made €7.4 million in sales.
