Fruitland is a small, quiet place in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county.
You can find Fruitland along U.S. Route 61. It's about 5 mi (8.0 km) north of a town called Jackson. It's also just a little north of where U.S. Route 61 meets Interstate 55.
A Look Back: Fruitland's History
Fruitland got its name from something delicious: a fruit orchard! Long ago, there was a big orchard full of fruit trees right near where the community started. This gave the area its sweet name.
A post office opened in Fruitland in 1886. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1968.
