Fuller's Past: A Mining Town
Fuller used to be a busy place because of mining. Mining towns grew up around places where valuable minerals, like coal, were dug out of the ground. People moved there to work in the mines, and shops and homes were built to support them.
The town was also connected by the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Railroads were super important back then for moving goods and people, especially for mining operations.
Fuller even had its own post office! It opened in 1894, which helped people send and receive letters and packages. But as the mining slowed down, the post office closed its doors in 1914. This often happened to mining towns when the mines ran out or became too expensive to operate.
