Fuller Lake is a small, beautiful lake located in south-central Pennsylvania. It covers about 1.7 acres (0.0069 km2) of water. This lake is found in the former Pine Grove Quarry. The quarry is in Cooke Township, within Cumberland County.
Fuller Lake is part of the amazing Pine Grove Furnace State Park. It is also near the Michaux State Forest. You can find it close to the community of Toland. The state park is nestled in the South Mountain Range. This range is part of the northern Blue Ridge Mountains System.
Long ago, this area was a place where people dug for iron ore. As the quarry got deeper, mountain springs filled it with water. Workers had to pump this water out to continue their mining.
Fun Activities at Fuller Lake
Today, the mountain springs still feed Fuller Lake. This keeps the water nice and cool for swimming. A sandy beach was added to the lake in the 20th century. It's a great spot for families and friends to enjoy the water.
In 1965, Fuller Lake had to close for a short time. This was because of some water quality issues. But don't worry, it was cleaned up and reopened later. Now, it's a safe place to swim again.
For a while, the lake did not have lifeguards. This changed in 2009. After a safety incident in July 2008, lifeguards were brought back. They help make sure everyone stays safe while swimming.
