Funes is a lively city in the Santa Fe region of Argentina. It's part of the larger Greater Rosario area, located about 15 kilometers west of downtown Rosario. Around 38,000 people call Funes home.
The city was founded in 1874 by Tomás de la Torre. It was first known as San José, and sometimes as Loma de Ávila. Funes is often called "The Garden of the Province" because of its green spaces.
Many visitors, especially from nearby Rosario, come to Funes on weekends and during summer holidays. This means the city's population can almost double with tourists! A lot of homes in Funes are vacation houses for these visitors.

Where is Funes Located?
Funes is easy to reach from many major cities in Argentina. It is about 21 kilometers from downtown Rosario. The city is also 170 kilometers from Santa Fe, the capital of its province. Buenos Aires is about 310 kilometers away, and Córdoba is 400 kilometers away.
The city stretches for more than 8 kilometers from east to west. It is about 6 kilometers wide at its widest point. To the east, Funes borders Rosario, separated by the Ludueña creek. To the west, it borders the town of Roldán. The town of Ibarlucea is to the north, and Pérez is to the south.
Main Roads and Transport
Funes is divided by important roads. National Route 9 runs through the city. This route connects Funes to Córdoba and Rosario. Other key roads include RP34-S, which goes north to south, and Av Arturo Illia.
The Islas Malvinas International Airport is right next to Funes. Parts of the airport's land are actually within Funes' city limits.
A railway line, part of the General Mitre Railway, also crosses Funes. This line is used by the Nuevo Central Argentino train service.
Funes' Growth and Development
Over the last 20 years, Funes has changed a lot. It used to be a quiet town outside Rosario. Now, it's a popular place for people to live who work in Rosario. Many new gated communities have been built near the main highways.
This growth has brought many new residents, including professionals from Rosario and Buenos Aires. This has helped the city's income through property taxes. It has also led to more services and restaurants opening up in the area.
Quinta de Funes: A Place of Memory
The "Quinta de Funes" is a special property in the city. It is located where the old National Route 9 meets Diagonal San José. Today, this site is recognized as a "Site of Memory of State Terrorism."
In 2016, plans were approved to turn the property into a museum. This museum helps people remember important historical events.
