The Story of Future City
Future City started as a neighborhood for the nearby city of Cairo in the early 1900s. At that time, most of the people living there were African Americans.
Life in Future City faced big challenges from nature. A major flood hit the area in 1912, causing a lot of damage. But the people worked hard and quickly rebuilt their homes and community.
However, another, even bigger flood struck in 1913. This was part of the Great Flood of 1913. This time, almost every building in Future City was damaged or even moved from its foundation. It was a very tough time for the community.
Today, only a few people still live in Future City.
