'06 GMC Envoy
A 2006 GMC Envoy, a popular SUV model.

The GMC Envoy was a type of SUV (which stands for Sport Utility Vehicle). It was made by the GMC company, which is part of General Motors. The Envoy was first introduced in 1998.

In 2002, the Envoy got a big update. It started using the same main frame, or chassis, as the new Chevrolet TrailBlazer. Later, a longer version of the Envoy was also made.

Special Envoy Models

The Envoy XUV

In 2004, a special version of the Envoy was released. It was called the Envoy XUV. This model was based on the longer Envoy XL. However, it did not have seats in the very back. Instead, it had a roof over the cargo area that could open up. This was an idea to make the vehicle work like both an SUV and a pickup truck. But, the Envoy XUV looked a bit unusual and did not sell very well.

Safety Features

The GMC Envoy included several important safety features. These helped keep drivers and passengers safe on the road.

  • Daytime Running Lights: These lights turn on automatically during the day. They help other drivers see the Envoy more easily.
  • Electronic Stability Control: This system helps the driver keep control of the vehicle. It is especially useful when driving on slippery roads or during sudden turns.
  • Anti-lock Brakes: These brakes prevent the wheels from locking up. This allows the driver to steer the car even when braking hard.
  • Rollover Sensor: This sensor could detect if the vehicle was about to roll over. If it did, it would automatically make the side curtain airbags open. These airbags help protect people inside the car during a crash.

End of Production

The year 2009 was the last time the GMC Envoy was made. After that, it was replaced by a newer model called the GMC Terrain.
