Gaana is a popular music streaming service from India. It started in April 2010. Think of it like a huge online music library where you can listen to songs. Gaana offers both Indian and international music.

For a long time, people all over the world could listen to Gaana's Indian music. However, since 2023, access to its music library became limited based on where a user was located. Gaana has music in 21 different Indian languages. These include major languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Punjabi, along with many other regional languages.

Gaana lets you create your own music playlists. You can even make these playlists public so other users can see and enjoy them. People can also view and mark other users' playlists as their favorites. Gaana has a mobile app that works on Android, iOS, and Windows phones.

Since 2022, Gaana has been a service that requires a subscription to use. This means you pay a fee to access all its features and music. In India, the premium version costs 99 Indian Rupees per month. In 2023, a company called Entertainment Network India Limited (ENIL) became the owner of Gaana.

How Gaana Started

Early Days of Gaana

The website address, Gaana.com, was first registered on June 21, 2005. The service officially launched in April 2010.

In February 2013, Gaana.com teamed up with the South Indian Music Companies Association. This partnership helped Gaana get the rights to music from 79 different music labels. Because of this, Gaana gained access to more than 45 million songs.

New Owners and Investments

In October 2015, a company called Micromax bought a part of Gaana.com. Later, in February 2018, another big company, Tencent, invested $115 million in Gaana. These investments helped Gaana grow and add new features.

Cool Features and Updates

Gaana has always tried to add new and exciting features for its users. In May 2015, Gaana added gaming features to its music streaming app. This made listening to music even more interactive. The app also introduced a voice assistant feature, allowing users to control music with their voice.

On July 8, 2020, Gaana launched a short video platform called HotShots. This happened after the Indian government banned TikTok, a popular short video app. HotShots gave users a new way to create and share short videos.

Recent Ownership and Partnerships

Gaana was acquired by Entertainment Network India Limited (ENIL) for about 25 lakh Indian Rupees (which is around US$30,000). This acquisition happened in 2023.

In December 2024, Mahindra & Mahindra, a big car company, partnered with Gaana. This partnership means that Gaana's music streaming service will be built right into some of Mahindra's new electric SUVs. This allows people to listen to their favorite music directly in their cars.
