About Gabriela Villalba

Her Early Life

Gabriela Villalba was born in Quito, Ecuador, on September 20, 1984. Her full name is María Gabriela Villalba Jervis. She has seven brothers: Juan Carlos, Ricardo, Diego, Sandra, Mateo, Tiago, and Alessandro. Her parents are Juan Carlos Villalba and Paulina Jervis. Gabriela went to Jacques Cousteau High School in Guangopolo, a small town near Quito. She started her career in media very young by appearing in TV commercials.

Joining the Band Kiruba

Gabriela became famous when she joined the Ecuadorian TV show Popstars. This show was a competition to find new singers. She won the show and became a member of Kiruba, a very successful girl band from Ecuador. Their first album sold over 20,000 copies! The band was together for two years and released two albums: Kiruba and Baila La Luna.

Becoming a TV Star and Solo Singer

After Kiruba broke up in 2005, Gabriela starred in a TV show in Colombia. It was called Al Ritmo De Tu Corazón, which means To The Rhythm Of Your Heart. She also sang and wrote the main song for the show. Many music producers then offered her a chance to start her own singing career.

In 2005, Gabriela released her first solo album, Todo Bien (Everything's Fine). Her first song from the album, "Me Doy Vueltas" ("I Turn In Circles"), became quite popular in Ecuador.

Joining the Band Kudai

On May 30, 2006, Gabriela was invited to open a concert for the Chilean pop rock band Kudai in Quito. Kudai's manager was very impressed by her singing. He asked her to temporarily join the band because one of their singers was away.

About a month later, Nicole Natalino announced she was leaving Kudai. In August 2006, Gabriela officially became a permanent member of the group.

Kudai broke up in 2010. Six years later, the original members of the band got back together. In 2024, Kudai reunited with Gabriela, making them a five-person band for the first time ever.
