Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia is a Spanish filmmaker. He directs movies and commercials. He is well-known for his first full-length movie, The Platform, which came out in 2019. This film is a science fiction and horror story set in a dark future.

Early Life and School
Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia was born in Bilbao, Spain, on February 17, 1974. He studied business management at college.
Filmmaking Career
Before making feature films, Galder directed short films. These included 913 (in 2004) and The House on the Lake (in 2011). He also directed many commercials.
His first big movie was The Platform, released in 2019. This movie is a dystopian science fiction–horror film. Galder has explained that the movie shows how everyone has someone above them and someone below them. It's not just about a fight between different groups of people.
His next movie, a thriller called Rich Flu, was announced in February 2023. This film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jonah Hauer-King. Another movie, The Platform 2, was also released in 2024.
Movie Inspirations
When making The Platform, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia was inspired by many things. He mentioned Dante's famous book Divine Comedy. He also looked at other movies like The Exterminating Angel (1962), Delicatessen (1991), Blade Runner (1982), and Taxi Driver (1976).

Awards and Recognition
The Platform won several important awards. It received the People's Choice Award for Midnight Madness at the Toronto Film Festival. It also won four awards at the Sitges Film Festival. These awards included Best Film, Best New Director, Best Special Effects, and the Audience Award.
