The Gallatin Gateway Inn is a beautiful and historic hotel in Gallatin Gateway, Montana. It has a unique Spanish-style look with its stucco walls. This special hotel is known as one of the "Historic Inns of America." It first opened its doors a long time ago, on June 18, 1927.

Discovering the Gallatin Gateway Inn

The Gallatin Gateway Inn was built by a big railroad company called The Milwaukee Road. This company wanted to encourage people to travel by train. The hotel was a luxurious place for visitors to stay. It was one of the first hotels in Montana to have telephones in every room!

A Hotel Built for Adventure

The Milwaukee Road built this hotel to promote tourism. They wanted more people to ride their famous passenger trains. These trains included the Olympian Hiawatha and the Columbian. The hotel was connected to the main railroad line by a special electric train track. This made it easy for travelers to arrive.

Connecting to Yellowstone National Park

A big reason for the hotel's location was its closeness to Yellowstone National Park. From the Gallatin Gateway Inn, travelers could easily get to the park. Special buses would pick up passengers right from the hotel. They would then take them on exciting trips into Yellowstone. This made the hotel a popular stop for park adventurers.

A New Chapter for the Inn

The Gallatin Gateway Inn was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 24, 1980. This means it is recognized as an important historic building. In the 1980s, the hotel was carefully restored to its original beauty. More recently, in 2013, new owners bought and updated the Inn. Since 2015, the building has been used to house employees. These employees work at nearby mountain clubs like the Yellowstone Club.
