Gallery Arcturus is a special art gallery and museum in downtown Toronto, Canada. It's a place where you can see modern art for free. The gallery is located in the Garden District, close to Toronto Metropolitan University.
The museum is a not-for-profit gallery. This means its main goal is to share art with the public, not to make money. It has a permanent collection of over 200 artworks. These include drawings, paintings, photos, and sculptures.
The collection features art from North American artists. Some famous artists include the photographer Simeon Posen and the Inuit sculptor Floyd Kuptana. The gallery's curator, who is in charge of the art, is Deborah Harris.

History of the Gallery
Gallery Arcturus was started in 1994. It was created by a charity called the Foundation for the Study of Objective Art. Their goal was to give people a place to see and study modern art without having to pay.
At first, the gallery was in a rented building. It began to collect many artworks for people to enjoy. The first major additions were paintings from a group of artists in Grass Valley, California.
A New Home
In 1997, the foundation bought a large historic building for the gallery. This building, located at 80 Gerrard Street East, became the gallery's permanent home. It was built in 1858 in the Georgian Revival style of architecture.
This building is famous for another reason. The well-known Canadian artist Lawren Harris, a member of the Group of Seven, painted it in 1912. The painting is called Houses, Gerrard Street, Toronto.
Growing the Collection
The gallery's art collection has grown bigger every year. It now has more than 225 pieces of art. Art from this collection is often used in new exhibits. The gallery usually presents new shows every six to eight weeks.
What's Inside the Gallery?
Gallery Arcturus has nine different areas for displaying art. Each space has a unique theme and feel.
The Genesis Gallery is where artists are invited to create new art based on ideas from the curator. The Up North Gallery shows landscape paintings and sculptures inspired by northern Canada.
On the second floor, you can find the Library. It displays sculptures by Floyd Kuptana and also has books and art by E.J. Gold. Next to it is the Collage Gallery, which features art made from different materials combined.
The Ascending Gallery is a tall space that goes from the first to the fourth floor. It shows works by many different artists from the gallery's collection.
The third floor has three more spaces. The Drawing Room features drawings made with graphite, pencil, ink, and charcoal. The Dark Room offers a unique viewing experience. The Photographic Gallery shows photos from the permanent collection and special photography events.
