Galmudug facts for kids
Galmudug is a special region in the middle of Somalia. It is like a state within Somalia. Its main city, or capital, is South Galcayo. This city is in the southern part of a larger city called Gaalkacyo.
Galmudug is a secular state. This means its government is separate from religion. It is different from some other regions in Somalia because it does not want to become a completely separate country. Instead, Galmudug sees itself as a part of the bigger country of Somalia. It is a federal division, which means it has its own government but is still connected to the main government of Somalia.
Where is Galmudug located?
Galmudug is in the central part of Somalia. It shares borders with other places. To the north of Galmudug is another region called Puntland. To the west, it borders the country of Ethiopia. To the south and east, it is surrounded by the rest of Somalia. The name "Galmudug" comes from combining the names of two regions: Galguduud and Mudug.
