The Garfield station is an important 'L' train station in Chicago. It's part of the CTA's Green Line. You can find it at 320 E. Garfield Boulevard in the Washington Park neighborhood. This station first opened a long time ago, on October 12, 1892. It's special because it's the last stop where both parts of the Green Line meet before they split. One part goes to Ashland/63rd, and the other goes to Cottage Grove.

Connecting to Other Train Lines
There is another Garfield station nearby on Garfield Boulevard. This other station serves the Red Line. In 2013, the Red Line had to close part of its tracks for repairs. During this time, the Green Line's Garfield station became a hub for special bus routes. These buses helped passengers from closed Red Line stations get to Garfield. People could ride these buses and enter the Garfield station for free while the Red Line was being fixed.
Places to Visit Near Garfield Station
The Garfield station is close to the University of Chicago. It's also the closest 'L' station to the Museum of Science and Industry. Even though the museum is more than two miles away, you can easily get there. Just take the 24/7 55 Garfield
bus from the station.
The Historic Entrance of Garfield Station
One of the entrances at Garfield station is the oldest one in the entire CTA system. This historic entrance was closed in 2000. Later, in 2013, it was filled with cement. However, the front part of the old entrance still remains. In 2017, the University of Chicago announced exciting plans. They decided to fix up the inside of this old entrance. They want to reopen it as part of their Arts Block complex.
Garfield Gateway Project: Station Upgrades
The Garfield station received a big upgrade called the Garfield Gateway Project. This project cost $43 million. It started on June 15, 2018, and was finished on January 10, 2019. These improvements made the station better for everyone who uses it.
