Garland (also known as Harvey) is a small, unincorporated community located in Henry County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Garland is found along an old, unused railroad line in an area that used to have many coal mines. It's about six miles northwest of Clinton, just east of Missouri Route O.

About Garland's History

Garland was officially planned and mapped out, a process called platting, around 1890. This happened when the railroad tracks were extended to reach this spot.

The Post Office and Naming

A post office for Garland was opened in 1886. It served the community for many years before closing down in 1927. The community was named after Garland Covington. He was the son of the person who originally owned the land where the town was built.
