Gary McDonald was born in 1961 in London, England. He is an English actor with Jamaican family roots. Before becoming an actor, Gary went to Elliott School. He also played football for Wimbledon FC. His coach was Dario Gradi.

Acting on Stage

Gary McDonald started his acting journey in theatre. From 1979 to 1980, he was part of the Royal Court Theatre. There, he performed in plays like Hard time Pressure and Hero's Welcome. He also acted in Been so Long by Che Walker.

In the 1980s, Gary worked with the Talawa Theatre company. He appeared in famous plays such as The Black Jacobins and The Importance of Being Earnest. He also performed in A Raisin in the Sun with the Black Theatre.

Gary also acted at the Royal National Theatre. He was in productions like Macbeth and Black Poppies. Other theatre shows include Blood Wedding and It's a Great Big Shame.

Gary McDonald's first big TV role was in 1987. He played Darren Roberts in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. He was on the show until 1988.
