Early Life and Education
Gary Winick was born in Manhattan, New York City. He went to the Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School and finished in 1979. Later, he graduated from Tufts University in 1984. He also earned advanced degrees in filmmaking from the University of Texas at Austin and the AFI Conservatory.
His Films and Production Work
Gary Winick directed several well-known movies. These include Out of the Rain (1991) and Tadpole (2002). He also directed the popular film 13 Going on 30 (2004). Another notable film he directed was the live-action remake of Charlotte's Web (2006). His last films were Bride Wars and Letters to Juliet.
In 1999, Winick started his own film company called InDigEnt. This company was based in New York City. Through InDigEnt, he produced movies like Pieces of April (2003) and November (2004).
His Passing
Gary Winick passed away in Manhattan on February 27, 2011. He was 49 years old. He had been battling brain cancer for several years.
