Early Challenges as Count
When Gausfred II first became count, he faced a big challenge right away. His uncle, Hugh I of Empúries, invaded his lands. This invasion was the result of many years of arguments and fights between Hugh and Gausfred's father, Giselbert. These family disputes started because their own father, Gausfred I, had divided his lands between his sons.
Peace Treaty of 1020
To stop the fighting and solve the problems, Gausfred II and his uncle Hugh signed a peace treaty in 1020. This agreement officially ended the wars and legal battles between them.
Later Conflicts and Expansion
Around the year 1040, after his uncle Hugh died, Gausfred II saw an opportunity. He and his son, Giselbert, decided to invade the lands of Hugh's son, Ponç.
Invasion of Empúries
During this invasion, Gausfred II and Giselbert took over towns and villages. They also attacked and took control of the city of Empúries itself.
