The Napoleonic Battery: A Historic Fort
One of the most important historical sites in Gavarda is the Napoleonic battery. These are the remains of an old fortress from the 18th century. You can find it on a small hill on the east side of the newer part of Gavarda village.
Why the Battery Was Important
The battery was built in a very smart location. From its position, it could control the Júcar River and the main road that connected Castile (a region in central Spain) with Valencia. This made it a key spot for defense and travel.

This fortress was used during the Peninsular War, also known as the Independence War, which took place in the early 1800s. Recent studies by archaeologists show that it was definitely used as a fort during that time. It helped protect the area and control movement during the conflict.
