Gayane Chebotaryan (born November 8, 1918, died January 16, 1998) was an Armenian composer and music expert. She was born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. She became a very important figure in Armenian music.

Her Early Life and Education

Gayane Chebotaryan was born in the city of Rostov-on-Don, Russia. This was on November 8, 1918. She loved music from a young age. She decided to study music professionally. She went to the famous Leningrad Conservatory. This is a top music school in Russia.

At the conservatory, she learned a lot. She studied how to compose music with a teacher named K'usnaryan. She also learned to play the piano very well. Her piano teacher was Moisei Khalfin.

Teaching and Career

After finishing her studies, Gayane Chebotaryan started teaching. In 1947, she began working at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. This is a major music school in Armenia. She was a dedicated teacher.

Over the years, she became a highly respected professor. In 1977, she was officially made a professor at the Conservatory. Her hard work and talent were recognized. In 1965, she received a special award. She was named an Honored Art Worker of the Armenian SSR. This award honored her contributions to art.

Gayane Chebotaryan was also a musicologist. This means she studied music deeply. She wrote about music and its history. In 1969, she published an important work. It was about the special ways Aram Khachaturian used different melodies together. This is called polyphony.
