Gaza is a small, unincorporated community located in O'Brien County, Iowa, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place with a shared identity but without its own local government, like a city or town.

A Look Back: History of Gaza

Gaza began its story in 1888. This was after the Illinois Central Railroad built tracks through the area. The community was named after Gaza City, a place in the Gaza Strip of Palestine. In 1902, Gaza had a population of 42 people.

Community Life and Local Businesses

Since 1937, Gaza has been home to the Producers Cooperative Company. A "cooperative" is a business owned and run by its members, who share in the profits or benefits. This cooperative helps local farmers. It provides them with fuel, farm supplies, and products for growing crops.

Inside the main building of the co-op, there's a small museum. It displays items from Gaza's past. You can see trophies from the old Gaza Community School. There are also items from the Gaza community church, like a bible and communion tray. The museum helps keep the community's history alive.

The Producers Cooperative also hosts a fun event each year. It's the annual pancake feed for the South O'Brien High School FFA Chapter. This event happens on the Saturday before Easter Sunday.

Learning in Gaza: Education

Students in Gaza attend schools operated by the South O'Brien Community School District. This school district was created on July 1, 1993. It was formed when three smaller school districts joined together. These were the Paullina, Primghar, and Sutherland districts.
