Gemar Mills' School Journey
Gemar Mills grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in his hometown.
College and Beyond
In 2004, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He studied at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey. Later, in 2008, he received a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership. This degree was from American InterContinental University in Atlanta. He continued his studies and earned a PhD in Education in May 2017. His doctoral degree came from Seton Hall University.
Helping Schools Improve
Gemar Mills is well-known for helping schools get better. He worked with a group called The Future Project to make a big difference at Malcolm X Shabazz High School.
The Future Project's Mission
In 2015, The Future Project teamed up with Principal Mills. This non-profit group helps high school students who might not have many opportunities. Malcolm X Shabazz High School was facing many challenges at the time. It had been called one of the "country's most troubled high schools." The school was even being considered for closure. It had also seen four different principals in four years. The Future Project and Mills worked together to help the school succeed.
