Meet Gemar Mills, an inspiring American author and speaker. He became the youngest principal ever at Malcolm X Shabazz High School when he was just 27 years old. That's pretty young for such a big job!
Gemar Mills' Journey in Education
Gemar Mills grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. He went to John F. Kennedy High School there.
After high school, he studied math at Montclair State University. He earned his first degree in 2004. Later, he earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership in 2008. He got this from American InterContinental University in Atlanta. In 2017, he earned his PhD in Education from Seton Hall University.
Helping Schools Succeed
In 2015, a group called The Future Project teamed up with Gemar Mills. At that time, he was the principal of Malcolm X Shabazz High School. This school was facing many challenges. Some people even called it "Baghdad" because of how tough things were. The school was also considered for closure. It had four different principals in just four years.
The Future Project is a non-profit group. They help high school students who need extra support. They hired someone called a "Dream Director" to work at the school. This person helped students find their passions and set goals.
Working together, Gemar Mills and The Future Project helped make big changes. They worked hard to improve the school for its students.
