Gemma Ubasart González is a Spanish expert in politics and a politician. She has held important roles in government. From October 2022 to August 2024, she was the Minister of Justice, Rights and Memory for Catalonia. This means she helped manage the justice system in that region. She also served as a city councilor in Castellar del Vallès. Before that, she was a leader in the political party Podemos. She worked as the secretary for international affairs and public policies. In 2015, she was the secretary general of Podemos in Catalonia.
Gemma Ubasart's Journey
Education and Teaching
Gemma Ubasart studied at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. There, she earned her PhD, which is a very high university degree. She also studied the justice system and human rights at the University of Barcelona. She has a special degree in how to research and analyze social information.
After her studies, Gemma Ubasart became a professor. She taught at the University of Girona. She also taught at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Political Roles and Leadership
Gemma Ubasart started her political career in her hometown. In 2007, she was elected to the city council of Castellar del Vallès. She was part of a local group called L'Altraveu per Castellar.
Later, in November 2014, she joined the Citizen Council of the Podemos political party. She became part of the leadership team led by Pablo Iglesias Turrión. In this role, she was the secretary for international affairs. She also worked on public policies for change.
In February 2015, Gemma Ubasart was chosen for a big leadership role. She became the secretary general of Podemos in Catalonia. She held this important position until October 10, 2015.
