Gentle Thunder, whose real name is Lisa Carpenter, is an American musician. She is well-known for playing the Native American flute. She also plays other instruments like the hammered dulcimer, which is a string instrument played with small hammers, and various percussion instruments, which are instruments you hit to make sound.

Gentle Thunder grew up in Kirkland, Washington. She has shared that her mother's family has Cree ancestry, connecting her to Native American heritage.

Early Albums and Collaborations

In 2006, Gentle Thunder released an album called Beyond Words. She worked on this album with two talented musicians, Will Clipman and Amochip Dabney. These musicians also play with the famous artist R. Carlos Nakai.

Grammy and Native American Music Awards

Beyond Words was a very successful album. In 2007, it was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best New Age Album category. The Grammys are one of the biggest awards in music! The album also received a nomination at the 9th Native American Music Awards, which celebrates the best in Native American music.

Gentle Thunder also worked with singer-songwriter Mariee Sioux on Mariee Siou's album, Faces in the Rocks, which came out in 2007.

Her fourth album, titled Opening the Gate, was also recognized for its quality. It was nominated for Best Native American album at the 2007 NAR Lifestyle Music Awards.

Gentle Thunder has a special name for her flute. She calls it "Blue Heron."
