A Geo Prizm

The Geo Prizm was a small car sold by Chevrolet. It was available from 1990 to 1997. This car was very similar to the Toyota Corolla Sprinter. It was part of the Geo brand, which was a special line of cars.

What Was the Geo Prizm?

The Geo Prizm was a compact car. It was made for people who wanted a reliable and affordable vehicle. It replaced an older model called the Chevrolet Nova. The Prizm shared many parts with the Toyota Corolla. This meant it was known for being dependable.

How the Prizm Was Made

The Prizm was built in Fremont, California. It was made at a factory called New United Motor Manufacturing, or NUMMI. This factory was a special partnership. It was owned by two big car companies: General Motors (which owns Chevrolet) and Toyota. They worked together from 1985 to 2010.

At the NUMMI factory, the Geo Prizm was built alongside other popular cars. These included the Toyota Corolla and the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Sharing a factory helped both companies learn from each other.

Changes Over Time

When the Geo Prizm first came out, it was sold in different styles. From 1989 to 1992, you could buy it as a small sedan or a hatchback. A hatchback has a back door that swings up, making it easy to load things.

In 1992, the Prizm got a new look. After this redesign, it was only sold as a sedan. A sedan is a car with a separate trunk. This change happened because the Toyota Corolla and Sprinter models were also updated.

The End of the Geo Prizm

The Geo Prizm was a unique car in the Geo lineup. It was the only Geo model that wasn't sold in Canada under the Pontiac brand.

In 1998, the Geo brand was stopped. The Prizm continued to be sold, but its name changed to the Chevrolet Prizm. This new version was sold until 2002.

Eventually, the Toyota Sprinter model was no longer made. Also, sales of the Prizm started to go down. Because of this, General Motors decided to stop making the Prizm. It was replaced by newer cars like the Pontiac Vibe and the Chevrolet Cobalt.
