Geoffrey went to the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, which is a special school for future naval officers. He joined the Royal Navy in 1900 when he was just 15 years old.

Leading Ships and Fleets

After serving in the First World War, Geoffrey Arbuthnot took on many important roles. In 1929, he was given command of a large warship called HMS Suffolk. He then helped train other sailors and plan how the Navy worked. In 1934, he became the leader of groups of fast warships called destroyers in the Home Fleet. The next year, he took command of another important ship, HMS Valiant.
