Sir Charles Geoffrey Prior was an important British officer who worked in India. He was part of the British Indian Army and later joined a special group called the Indian Political Service. He was also honored with the Order of the Indian Empire and was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. He lived from 1896 to 1972.

Sir Geoffrey Prior: A Life in India
Early Life and Training
Geoffrey Prior was the only son of Richard Delabere Prior. He went to Shrewsbury School to study. After school, he trained to become an officer at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
On July 14, 1915, he officially joined the Indian Army. This army was a big part of the British rule in India.
A Career in Public Service
In August 1923, Sir Geoffrey Prior joined the Indian Political Service. This group helped the British government manage different areas in India. He worked his way up to become an under-secretary.
He received important awards for his work. In 1936, he was made a Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire. Later, in 1943, he became a Knight Commander of the same Order. This meant he was given the title "Sir."
By August 1947, when the British left India, Sir Geoffrey Prior held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Leading Baluchistan
Sir Geoffrey Prior was one of the last Chief Commissioners of Baluchistan. Baluchistan was a large region in what is now Pakistan. He held this important leadership role during the time when India was under British rule.
