George Bullock (born around 1521 – died 1572) was an English scholar who studied and taught about religion. He was a Roman Catholic theologian, which means he was an expert in religious studies, especially Christian beliefs.

Early Life and Education

George Bullock started his education at St John's College, Cambridge, a famous university in England. In 1538, he earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts. After that, he became a "fellow" at the college. A fellow is like a senior member or teacher who helps run the college.

During the time when Edward VI was king, George Bullock spent some time in France. He stayed at a place called Nevers Abbey.

Career at Cambridge

George Bullock returned to St John's College, Cambridge. From May 12, 1554, to July 20, 1559, he served as the "Master" of the college. The Master is like the head or principal of the college.

In 1556, he became the Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity. This was a very important teaching position where he taught about religious topics. The next year, in 1557, he earned an even higher degree, becoming a Doctor of Divinity.

Church Roles and Challenges

Besides his work at the university, George Bullock also held positions in the church. In 1556, he became the vicar of St Sepulchre-without-Newgate. A vicar is a type of priest who leads a church parish. Later that same year, he became the rector of Great Munden, which is another church leadership role.

When Elizabeth I became queen, things changed for George Bullock. Queen Elizabeth wanted everyone in important positions to take the Oath of Supremacy. This oath meant they had to promise loyalty to the Queen as the head of the Church of England. George Bullock was a Roman Catholic and refused to take this oath. Because of his refusal, he lost all his jobs and positions.

Later Years and Legacy

After losing his positions in England, George Bullock moved to Antwerp. Antwerp is a city in what is now Belgium. There, he continued his work as a theology lecturer, teaching about religious subjects.

George Bullock passed away in Antwerp in October or November of 1572. He also wrote a book titled Oeconomia concordantiarum scripturae sacrae, which was about religious harmony.
