George Estye (born in 1566, died in 1601) was an English clergyman. This means he was a leader in the church. He was known for his studies and writings about religious topics.

George Estye's Life

Education and Career

George Estye went to Caius College, Cambridge, which is a famous university in England. He earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), in 1580 or 1581. Later, he became a fellow at his college. This meant he was a special member who helped with teaching and research.

He continued his studies and earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in 1584. In 1591, he received a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.) degree, which is an advanced degree in religious studies. In 1598, he was chosen to be a preacher at St. Mary's Church in Bury St Edmunds.

Later Life and Family

George Estye passed away in Bury on August 2, 1601. He was buried in his church. A special monument was put up to remember him. It had a Latin message written by Dr. Joseph Hall, who later became a bishop.

His wife, Triphosa, later married Matthew Clarke. Matthew Clarke was also a graduate of Cambridge University. He was elected mayor of King's Lynn twice and also served as a Member of Parliament (M.P.) for that town.

His Books and Writings

George Estye wrote several books that explained different parts of the Christian faith. These books were all printed together in one large volume in London in 1603.
