Sir George Fleetwood (born in 1564, died on December 21, 1620) was an English politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is like one of the main parts of the UK Parliament today, where laws are discussed and made. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) at different times between 1586 and 1611.

Early Life & Family Background

Sir George Fleetwood was the younger son of Thomas Fleetwood. His family lived at a place called The Vache in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. His mother was Bridget Spring. George studied law at places like New Inn and Middle Temple in London around 1580. When his father passed away, George inherited the family estate, The Vache, in Buckinghamshire.

Political Career & Public Service

Sir George Fleetwood started his political journey in 1586. He was chosen as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Wycombe. An MP is someone elected to represent people in Parliament.

He also held important local roles. From about 1586, he was a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Buckinghamshire. A J.P. helped keep law and order in the local area. From 1590 to 1591, he was the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire. The High Sheriff was a very important official who helped the Crown enforce laws in the county.

In 1603, he was given the title of Knight, becoming "Sir George Fleetwood." The next year, in 1604, he was again elected as an MP, this time for Tavistock.

Family Life & Descendants

Sir George Fleetwood married Katherine Denny on April 19, 1586. Katherine was related to Sir Francis Walsingham, who was a famous spymaster for Queen Elizabeth I. George and Katherine had a large family with eight sons and six daughters.

One of their sons, James Fleetwood, later became a Bishop of Worcester, which is a high position in the church. Sir George also had a grandson named George Fleetwood. This grandson became a major-general and was involved in the events that led to the execution of King Charles I of England.
