Early Life and Education
George Mainwaring was the only son of Sir Arthur Mainwaring. His father was also a MP, which means he was a representative in the English Parliament.
George went to Shrewsbury School in 1562. Later, in 1565, he studied at the Inner Temple. This was a famous place in London where people learned about law. After his father passed away in 1590, George took over his family's responsibilities. He was given the title of "Sir" (knighted) around 1593.

Member of Parliament
In 1572, Sir George was chosen to be a MP for Shropshire. This meant he represented the people of Shropshire in the Parliament of England. The Parliament was where important laws and decisions for the country were made.
Local Government Roles
Sir George also held several important jobs in his local area of Shropshire:
- Justice of the Peace: By 1593, he became a Justice of the Peace. This role involved keeping law and order in the county and dealing with local legal matters.
- Custos Rotulorum: Around 1593 to 1596, he was appointed custos rotulorum. This was a very important position. It meant he was the chief record keeper for the county.
- Deputy Lieutenant: By 1608, he became a deputy lieutenant. This role involved helping the Lord Lieutenant, who was the monarch's main representative in the county. They helped with military matters and keeping the peace.
Council of the Marches of Wales

Sir George Mainwaring married a woman named Anne. She was the daughter of William More from Loseley Park in Surrey.
Together, Sir George and Anne had four sons and one daughter. Two of their sons also became famous:

Their daughter, Margaret Mainwaring, lived until 1654. She married Sir Richard Baker.
